Installing Dive Assistant - Pocket PC Edition 2006 and Dive Assistant - Pocket PC
Edition 2008 is very simple. Once you
have downloaded the correct executable from the website run it. Running
the executable will start the desktop part of the installation process. This
will install all the components onto your Desktop PC and then start the
Pocket PC installation. If you are running Pocket PC 2003 you should install the "ARM V4" executable. If you are
running Window Mobile 5 you should install the "WM5" executable.
Dive Assistant - Pocket PC Edition 2006 uses Microsoft Compact Framework 1.1.
Devices based on Pocket PC 2003 and later already have the framework installed.
Earlier version will require you to download the framework from Microsoft's
website:

Dive Assistant - Pocket PC Edition 2008 uses the Microsoft Compact Framework 2.0.
Most Pocket PCs will not have this version of the Compact Framework installed. You can
download it from Microsoft's website:

The Pocket PC installation process will run automatically if the Pocket PC is
connected to the PC. If not it will run the next time the Pocket PC is
connected to the PC. There are 2 components installed as part of the Dive
Assistant. They are the SQL Server component and the Dive Assistant component.
If either component is already installed the installer will ask you if you want
to overwrite the existing installation. There is the option to install the
application to store cards or flash memory.
Upgrade
If you are upgrade to Dive Assistant - Pocket PC Edition 2006 you sould make a backup
copy of the data.sdf and tables.sdf files on your Pocket PC and save them in a safe
location. Uninstall the old version of the application, install the 2006 Edition
and finally copy the data.sdf file and tables.sdf file back into application folder.
If you are upgrading to Dive Assistant - Pocket PC Edition 2008 you should
make a copy of the data.sdf and tables.sdf on your Pocket PC, before
uninstalling the application. Email the files to use at DiveAssistant.com and we
will convert the files into the new Pocket SQL format. Once the application has been uninstalled,
install the 2008 Edition. Finally copy the converted .sdf files back into
the application folder.
Whenever you upgrade or reinstall the application please make a
copy of the data.sdf and tables.sdf files as they contain the dive log
data and dive tables respectively.
